Being a Catalyst

One of the primary functions of the Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association is to be a catalyst for organized sailing on Great South Bay. The sport of sailing is undergoing many changes and GSBYRA needs to find ways to adapt without losing our rich tradition. Ultimately we depend on you, the individual sailor, to help our organization become effective and responsive. I am reaching out to all of you to gather ideas and to channel our collective energy to meet the challenges of the future. Success requires that we must be good listeners and at the same time we must also be activists.

I have several objectives for the next two years.

            · Develop better communication between the Association, the Clubs, fleets and individual sailors to identify and meet the needs of Great South Bay sailors.

            · Build on the existing framework for junior sailing on Great South Bay.

            · Encourage new ideas while maintaining our traditions.

I would like to “welcome aboard” the U. S. Virgin Island Sailing Association (VISA) as a new member to Area B. Many Optimist sailors have met many sailors from this wonderful venue and I look forward to working with all the sailors from this association in the future. This expands the opportunities for everyone.

I encourage you to contact me directly with any ideas you might have. We can accomplish a lot when we work together.
